The Royals

The Royals is a vocal group of American Doo-wop .

The four-bit byte, composed of Henry Booth, singer soloist, Sony Woods, low, Lawson Smith, baritone, and Charles Sutton, second soloist, is discovered in 1951 by Johnny Otis in a contest of young talents to Détroit (Michigan). They are engaged by Federal, under-label of King specialized in the Rhythm and blues, and leave their first disc, Every Beat Off My Heart (written by Otis) in March 1952. The song will become a tube in 1961 when it is taken again by Gladys Knight & The Pips.

It leave four more others 45 turns then, at the beginning of 1953, Smith leaves the group and Booth is put in withdrawal to leave its place of soloist with Hank Ballard. The piece Get It reaches the 8° place of the charts rhythm & blues. Follow Hey Miss Fine , That' S It , then they still record for Federal a last title: Work With Me Annie . But, not to be confused The Five Royal, a group with success which has just signed at King, they change their name for that of The Midnighters…
