the Rosny-on-Seine is a common department of the Yvelines, in the area Île-de-France, in France, located at approximately 13 km in the west of Mantes-the-Pretty.

This Village, located in a loop of the the Seine, is for the history the country of Sully.

The name of Rosny derives from Rodonium , place name Gallo-Roman.

The commune is twinned with Lustadt (Germany) since April 1981.

Geography

The commune of the Rosny-on-Seine is bordering on Mantes-the-Pretty and Buchelay in the east, of Rolleboise in north, the Bonnières-on-Seine in the west and Saint-Illiers-the-City and Perdreauville in the south.

The village is located in edge of the Seine, in the alluvial plain which is tightened before the concavity of the meander of Guernes. The territory of the commune also includes on the plate the Forêt of Rosny (culminating point to 143 m). It is sprinkled by the Ru of Bléry.

The Autoroute of Normandy (A13) crosses it entirely without serving it directly. An important service area is established there in the crossing of the commune.

The commune is served by a station of the line Paris - Rouen.

History

  • in the beginning Gallo-Roman village: Rodonium .
  • in XIe century, stronghold of the lords of Mauvoisin, who make build a medieval castle.
  • in XVIe century, Rosny is property of the family of Sully; this last, adviser of the king Henri IV, which was also superintendent of finances, made build the current castle.
  • 1824 : opening of the old people's home Saint-Charles, built by the duchess of Berry.

  • 1843: inauguration of the station by the Company of the railroad of Paris in Le Havre.
  • 1943: creation of the school of Sully agriculture in the buildings of the old people's home Saint-Charles (school transferred to Magnanville in 1968).

  • Monuments
    • Castle of Rosny: built, out of bricks and calcareous stone, by Maximilien de Béthune, duke of Sully, at the end of XVIe century, this castle knew various vicissitudes during XIXe and XXe centuries. It was classified historic building in 1941. Acquired in 1984 by a Japanese company, the Japanese Sangyoo Kabushiki Kaisha, it was largely stripped of his furniture and underwent various degradations, of which a fire in January 1997. Work of conservation dealt with by the ministry for the Culture and the Communication was undertaken then of office, after injunction of the failing owner.
    • Old people's home Saint-Charles: built in the years 1820 per Marie-Caroline, duchess of Berry, this old people's home being next to the castle fulfills a double function, to look after the patients and to raise the poor children, during more than one century. It was also until 1968 the seat of a school of private agriculture. It was then unused and abandoned. In 1983, the urban District of Mantes decides to restore it and to make of it a cultural place which presents in particular of exposure of paintings and sculptures.
