The Rose
The Pink is an American film of Mark Rydell left in 1979. It describes the tragic destiny of a singer of Rock captive of alcohol undergoing the pressure of the celebrity and the rounds. Exhausted by this way of life, it chooses to give a last concert in its birthplace before withdrawing scene temporarily. The main role is held by Bette Midler.
Written by Bill Kerby, Bo Goldman and Michael Cimino (not credited with the credits), the scenario is inspired largely by the life of Janis Joplin. It was besides with the departure entitled Pearl , like the posthumous album of Janis Joplin, left in 1971.
The film was appointed four times at the Oscar S in the categories better actor in a supporting role, better actress, better assembly and better sound. Bette Midler, of which it is the first great role with the cinema, obtained two Golden Globes, those of better actress in a musical film or a comedy and of better most promising young actress.
Synopsis
The action proceeds in 1969 and The Pink, a star of the rock'n'roll, is exhausted by the life which it carries out. It thus informs its manager of its wish to take one sabbatical year after an ultimate concert given in its birthplace in Florida. More interested by the profit than by health of the singer, he dissuades it but Rose thinks of having met the love in the person of Houston Dyer and is obstinated. The day in the concert, most important of its career, it chooses the scene rather than the love. This decision will be fatal for him.

Original soundtrack
The album The Pink drawn from film was produced by Paul A. Rothchild, the producer of the last album of Janis Joplin, Pearl .The turning of the principal scenes in concert took place on June 23rd, 1978 in Wiltern Theater in Los Angeles. At the time of this concert filmed using nine cameras covering various angles, other titles were also interpreted by Bette Midler such as Spanish Harlem or River Deep, Mountain High but they were not integrated into the final version of film, nor of the album:

The song titrates made up by Amanda McBroom appears only at the end of film during the credits. Midler white beet, with this individual , was classified third with the American Hit-parade and obtained a Disque of gold in 1980.
Anecdotes
- the first scenario received per Mark Rydell was a biography on Janis Joplin and not a fictionalized work. He thought of proposing the role with Bette Midler, then little known, but the producers refused. They preferred to urge a even if it means famous actress to make it double by a singer
