Comment

In this film, Nanni Moretti plays the part of a disturbed psychoanalyst himself. The setting in scene and the assembly give to the Room of the son an astonishing sobriety. The first part of film shows the banality of the family daily newspaper: happy parents, two children: a girl and a boy. This daily newspaper is upset by the death of the son. The family which was then linked, émiette. Each one is closed again on its pain and, because of that, each family member finds himself isolated. Giovanni cannot consider a future without Andrea, of the flashbacks of moments spent with his/her son do not cease haunting his spirit. The characters do not manage to express the pain which corrodes them. Indeed, Giovanni is first of all unable to announce the death of his/her son to his friends by telephone; it more cannot it in the letter which it in vain tries to write with the former friend of Andrea.
