The Road of the Rock\'n\'roll

The Route of the Rock'n'roll is a Festival which is held in Brittany since 1991 at the height the Holy Father with the Holy Father Marc out of Chicken like on the beach of the Furrow and with the Palate of the Big wide with Saint-Malo during the Week-end of the August 15th. As from 2006, the Road of the Rock'n'roll will know 2 editions per annum with a Collection of Winter in February and a Collection of summer in August.

History

Rennes - the Eighties. It is the explosion of the free radios in France; in Rennes one listens to Radio Savanna, a very free station of which one of the organizers, Franck Roland, creates association Rock Tympanums in 1986 and organizes concerts new wave in the city. Then Radio Savanna makes the expenses of many skids and its antenna is removed… Franck Roland then takes again the antenna of private radio station and assembles Canal B in 1989. He constitutes a staff and recruits organizers; among which, François Floret and Stephan Ridard. Association Rock Tympanums parallel to continues to organize concerts in Rennes, of which that in particular, of a young group of Oxford in 1993, Radiohead, in front of about fifty people… Through their emission Foul weather for the hits, François Floret and Stephan Ridard meet Ludovic Renoult come to present the concert of Little Nemo which it organizes in Saint Malo. The power is on and germinates the idea of a festival rock'n'roll in Saint Malo.

It is in 1991 that the rooms of the House of Associations, the Allende Center and many bars in the middle of the city are invested in order to accommodate the first edition of the Road of the Rock'n'roll - in wink with the celebrates race of sailing ships at the beginning of Saint-Malo. During does its first three editions, the festival sharpen its artistic line and in parallel, Rock Tympanums organizes Ici London , a second festival which accommodates Therapy?, Neds Atomic Dustbin and Mega City Furnace with closed counter.

Canal B is already a memory and yet it is a man of radio which enables them to see larger: Bernard Lenoir. He heard of the four boys and seeks to imply himself in a festival of summer and proposes to gear down the promotion of the event in his emission “Inrockuptible” (then “It is Lenoir”) on France Inter. Rock Tympanums cannot dream better sponsorship to hoist its festival on the national chess-board, then international…

The Route of the Rock'n'roll chooses to forsake the winter for the summer, and equips it share with seeks of a particular site. It is a record dealer of Dinard which speaks to them about strong Vauban of the XVIIIe century to the abandonment, side of Chateauneuf d' Ille and Vilaine: the fort of the Holy Father, with nine kilometers of the City corsair. The town hall of the Holy Father, owner of the place, being wary initially, makes finally confidence with the organization. One agrees to organize a “concert test” in the fort in order to determine if it is possible to organize there without damage large a raout rock'n'roll. Noir Desire is stuck to it and except a disappointing frequentation, this first attempt proves to be conclusive. The town hall gives its green light to the organization of an edition of the Road of the Rock'n'roll in the fort of the Holy Father in 1994 and as from this first year, the expansion of the festival will be constant. One thus spends the following year to two evenings, then to three in 1996 - final formula, until in 1998 the festival accommodates twenty-two thousand spectators outside the fort, dislodged temporarily to a few hundred meters of the site, under pretext of mysterious work (undoubtedly of work of mine clearance… Eh yes, it acts of a fort, after all)…

The configuration of imposing Fort the Holy Father limits the frequentation of the festival to twelve thousand spectators per evening.

In 2003, the Road of the Rock'n'roll opened a scene electronica within the Palate of the Big wide. It is there that Prefuse 73 or Manitoba occurred. In 2006, an annual 2nd edition is added with the creation of the Collection Winter mid-February.
