The Rippingtons
The Rippingtons is an American group of Jazz-rock'n'roll fusion, Smooth jazz and Jazz-pop formed in 1986 by the guitarist Russ Freeman (not to be confused with the pianist Cool jazz of the same name). Contrary to much of other activists of the kind, who nourissent of influences mainly Afro-Americans, the music of Rippingtons is also marked by strong Latin accents, in particular of Flamenco. Their albums often bear the name of cities, of places or of country and their small pockets are marked by a frame of mind hedonist where one can observe a recurring character, a supposed blue cat to represent the founder of the group Russ Freeman. With 20 years of career to the meter, the group has obviously known various formations.
Its current members are the following:
-
Russ Freeman - guitarist and clavierist
- Dave Karasony - beater
- Bill Heller - pianist
- Kim Stone - bass player
- Scott Breadman - percussionist
- Eric Marienthal - saxophonist
Among the musicians having in the past belonged to the group, one can quote in a nonexhaustive way: Jeff Kashiwa, Torch Fields, David Benoit, Gregg Karukas, Tony Morals, Steve Reid and even the saxophonist pop extremely discussed Kenny G.
