The Raspberries

The Raspberries was an American group of Rock' roll of the years 1970 and style Powerpop. Its members are originating in Cleveland (Ohio).

The group was strongly influenced by The Beatles, The Who, The Hollies, and The Small Faces and was related with the style Powerpop. Some of its songs having been a great success with the the United States are Go All The Way (of the first album Raspberries ), Let' S Pretend and I Wanna Be With You (of the second album Fresh ), Tonight (of the third Side 3 ) and Overnight Sensation (Hit Record) (of the last album, Starting Over ) and knew a great popularity in their time.

The producer Jimmy Ienner had begun again and refined the formula “Mur of the sound” of Phil Spector in all the albums of the Raspberries.

The Raspberries separated in 1974, with 4 albums with their credit.

History

Prolog

The group was born in the Ohio in the years 1960s and its members were previously in two local groups: The Choir and Cyrus Erie . The Choir had a more complete repertory (where " It' S Cold Outside" occupied an important place) which was translated into national success American (reached #68), but it was Cyrus Erie which attracted crowd. After many changes of the constitution of the groups, those amalgamate and become The Raspberries .

1970-1972

Principal type-setter of the group, Eric Carmen was also the leader and principal singer. Jim Bonfanti played the battery, Wally Bryson the guitar and Dave Smalley was the bass player. The band demonstration of Raspberries starts a higher bid for their contract, that Capitol Records, subsidiary of EMI, gains.

Two successive albums in 1972, in May and October ago of the year.

1973-1974

Owing to the fact that the tensions relating to the creative predominance of Carmen, the third album Side 3 , left in October 1973, had a harder and aggressive sound. Victim of the tensions, Smalley leaves the group, followed by Bonfanti. Both, they found a group Dynamite .

Their substitutes within Rasberries, bass player Scott McCarl and the old beater of Cyrus Erie, Michael McBride, join the group for the fourth and last album, Starting Over .

Influence

In spite of the separation of the group in 1974, its durable influence related to the successive generation of the movement Powerpop in at the end of 1970 such as Cheap Trick, The Rubinoos, R.E.M., The Romantics, Guns Pink, Teenage Fanclub, Enuff Z' Nuff, and Redd Kross. Bruce Springsteen paid homage to Raspberries during its round in summer 2005.

Epilog

Composer-songwriter and principal singer, Eric Carmen knows a flourishing career solo. He is author of many songs of which All By Myself , inspired of the 2nd concerto for piano of Sergei Rachmaninov. This song reaches the 2nd place in the United States (Billboard) and Classic Rock magazine regards it as one of the 40 better power ballad ever written. Later on, Hungry Eyes (appearing in the Original soundtrack of the film Dirty Dance hall ) in 1987 and Make Me Roofing stone Control in 1988 are sold in great number.

At the end of the years 1990, a first attempt at reformation of Raspberries fails.

In March 2000, Smalley, Bonfanti and Bryson meet under the name of Raspberries to record Refreshed .

November 26th, 2004, the House off Blues opens its club Cleveland board, and Raspberries meet for the concert of launching. Carmen, Bonfanti, Bryson and Smalley play in a complete club.

Their first album, Raspberries , spend 30 weeks in the prize lists, and reached # 51 with US in 1972. The second, Fresh Raspberries , reached # 36.
