The Rabbit burrow
the Rabbit burrow is a common French, located in the department of the Aveyron and the area the Midday-Pyrenees. Its inhabitants is called Clapierois.
Geography
The village is located at 640 meters of altitude on a plate which belongs to before causse i.e. at the platform established on limestones, in front of the Larzac causse which follows to the east but is higher from 100 to 200 Mr. the before-causse is very stony in the zone of the Rabbit burrow (geological stage of Sinémurien), from where the name of the place where one observes many dry stone walls of épierrement and stone heap (rabbit burrow = accumulation of stones in occitan). The rise on Causse is done in two levels. In foot of slope one observes a thick layer of marnes black belonging to Toarcien (175 million years); it is striated with claws of erosion so that the dark color of material is locally visible in the meadows. In top of slope the large white cliffs and limestones appear which characterize the edge of Larzac, here the Western part called Guilhaumard . In the precise case, the cliffs belong mainly to Bathonien. All the sector is place of excursion of researchers of whole Europe, for at least two reasons: on the one hand, the black marnes are fossiliferous and deliver a marine animal-life (ammonites, bélemnites…); in addition, the area, since the valley of Sorgue to close Larzac, makes it possible to discover a superb sedimentary sequence which, with some serious gaps, goes from Cambrien in the middle of the Secondary. It is magic to learn geology. The village of the rabbit burrow is located on the watershed Atlantiques and Mediterranean
