the Promise of the paddle is a Franco-American film carried out by Jules Dassin, left in 1970.

Synopsis

Romain Gary has told his childhood and its youth, for its first last years with Wilno, in Poland, after having fled the Russia with his/her mother, a former Jewish actress. She only raises it. Their difficulties lead them to settle with Nice. The dream of his/her mother is that Romain becomes Ambassadeur and writer: she becomes exhausted to earn money, sacrificing her personal life and her health to her son, who does not miss anything, and which must only study and write. He becomes raise-officer at the flying school of Living room-of-Provence. But its promotion is refused, because it is naturalized of too fresh date, and must then invent a lie to avoid with his mother a too painful disappointment. When the war bursts, it leaves like simple corporal, leaving it very suffering. But during every year of war, it receives letters of it which encourage it. Having joined the aviation of free France, it fights in Great Britain, Africa (whose Ethiopia and Syria), the war with the rank of captain finishes, is made companion of the Release, is seen proposing to enter the diplomacy for “exceptional services”, publishes European Éducation in England . Ghost in Nice at the end of the war, it discovers that his/her mother died 3 years before the return of Romain Gary to the hotel-pension Mermont (Nice): it had instructed a friend progressively to transmit hundreds of written letters to him before dying.
