The Prince of tennis

the Prince of tennis (ja テニスの王子様, tenisu No ōjisama ) is known under the names Prince off Tennis , Genius , Tennis No Ōjisama and recently in French, the Prince of Tennis . Manga created in 2001, it is a strong success for its humor and its resemblances to others manga sporting. Diffused in Weekly Shōnen Jump, the version Anime is also popular.

The animated version knows one big hit, but the notable differences with the manga reduced its popularity. It balanced in April 2005 and 178 episodes, several OAV, a film, and a Film live. However, the manga is still published. Thirteen volumes are appeared with the Éditions Kana.

There exists also seven musical comedies concerning the series.

Summary of the history

The hero of the history names Ryoma Echizen, Japanese who lived many years in the United States. His/her father, Nanjirou Echizen, is known as being the Samurai, became an internationally recognized great champion. The history starts whereas Ryoma arrives at the Japan and decides to be registered with the college Seishun Gakuen, also known under the name of Seigaku, which has a very qualified team of tennis.

The first chapter of the history thus starts with its arrival in Tōkyō, in the search of one competition to which it is registered. It meets Ryuzaki Sakuno but ends up missing the competition. He plays however against Sasabe, large pretentious which finally can concede only one to him 6-0, whereas Ryoma played of its right hand (although he is left-handed).

Concept of the adventure

After its arrival, Ryoma quickly integrates the professionals of the team of Seigaku. Those thus advance in the eliminatory tournaments, or often a failure means the possibility of not seeing the cut this year. Composed of eight members, only seven of them will play in a hen: two matches in double, three matches into simple. Bounces appear: certain players into simple return in double, others become simple players, etc the matches are played in only one set with possibility of tie break .

With the wire of the adventures, the players will meet other teams quite as wild as them which will play their talents to try to gain the matches. With the manner of the school of the Champions, these players have many “special blows” which give effects of power, trajectory, speed with the ball. It is easy however to guess that Seigaku often gains the levels by gaining more victories than the others. Contrary to others manga of sport, the heroes are not infallible: some lose whereas they are considered invincible. Moreover, the supporting characters often return in interludes, to even show their determination while returning at the time of the tournaments. It is currency to see losing valiant teams to show the danger which represents a new team.

As in the many ones animate and manga, Prince off Tennis rengorge supporting characters without ultimate interest. Many episodes also appear without much interest, in particular during the animated session. Besides this one changes whole for all at the time of the regional finale (and previously). Animates finishes with episode 178 while the manga continues on another trajectory.

Vocabulary suitable for the series

  • Ochibi-chan : this sentence pronounced by the very special Eiji Kikumaru which has fun to invent expressions generally not wanting anything to say is in fact a nickname for Ryoma Echizen ; young beginner made in the club of Tennis where it practices and which it finds very nice because being very small and making the head all the time. This nickname is thus an emotional nickname which one could translate into French like " my bébé" without to make return the concept of couple in the nickname.
possible Variations: Ochibi , Chibi . Ryoga begins again a little close the same vocabulary of Kikumaru except that chibisuke says to him meaning, salts dwarf or salts dwarf.
