Synopsis

After the war of 1914-18, our villages are populated of a majority of women, old men and children. The men died in the war and it is already the Beautiful Time for very the young men and the rare survivors. They have all the women. Antoine, the railwayman, who is twenty years old, is these. He is funny, he is merry, he is charming. Marie, the gate-keeper, lived, it, another history. Before the war, it was a happy good-sister: all its colleagues adored it because it divinement made them well the kitchen. The war came. Marie became nurse. She went to the face to look after the casualties, and there, she became acquainted with Lucien, a good boy, worker, treasurer and serious. Not like this runner of Antoine… Lucien moved Marie; Marie loved Lucien. " When I am cured, I will marry you and we will have beautiful enfants". Marie did not resist this declaration. There she left one of her two veils, not that of the nurse, but that of the nun. This beautiful story would have finished there if Lucien, promised in marriage, had not died.
