The Pirates Bay

The Pirate Bay is a site allowing the file-swapping torrents. Based in Sweden, he declares “  the largest waiter torrent of the web  ”, affirming to receive the visit of a visitor million per day. He also proposes largest tracker Bittorent in the world.

In May and June 2006, it is regularly mentioned in the newspapers, because it symbolizes resistance against the actions of the majors of Hollywood and a certain reform of the Royalty .

Description

The Pirate Bay is the one of largest Web sites as a referencor of files BitTorrent. This practice is badly seen by several countries because several pointed files are illegal copyings of cultural products. However, of the nature even of these files, it does not make it possible the current laws to slice in favor, or not, of its legality.

History

The May 31st 2006, on order of the ministry for Swedish Justice, 50 police officers searched and seized the waiters of the site, as well as other waiters of same shelterer PRQ, in particular those of the Piratbyrån, (an independent organization militant for the rights of file sharing), blocking the access to 300 sites without bond with The Pirate Bay. Three administrators of the site and the shelterer also were stopped and questioned by the police force, then slackened in the evening.

A television channel diffused documents proving that MPA directly intervened in this business, by directly threatening the government Swedish of financial sanctions against the Sweden. The business having been until violating the Swedish constitution (principle of the separation of the capacities), being interdict for the government to launch out in legal actions. The business took quickly a political dimension, the party of the center having asked for the creation of a parliamentary board of inquiry against the members of the ministry for justice persons in charge of closing of the site.

With an aim of continuing its activities, the site reopened its waiters with the Netherlands, the June 2nd 2006.

In protest with the seizure, 600 people expressed with the call of the organizations pro Swedish P2P in the streets of Stockholm and Gothenburg. This gathering is to date one of the greatest demonstrations in favor of P2P.

One of the persons in charge announces the June 14th 2006 that the waiters are turned over in Sweden, but no reason was evoked by the persons in charge (it is nevertheless question of pressures of the ministry for Justice Dutch).

In January 2007, The Pirate Bay announces a call to the gift in order to buy the island of Sealand to found a Micronation. This purchase will not finally take place, Prince Michael Bates having refused to yield the island to somebody who would go against the international laws. Tobias Andersson thus declared with the Swedish press that The Pirate Bay would remain finally in Sweden.

The greatest site of BitTorrent bonds in the world is caught some from now on with the Oscars. The team of the site created OscarTorrents.com in February 2007, which is according to them " the Oscars as they would owe être". OscarTorrents proposes to the Net surfers to vote in each category: better actor, best supporting role, better foreign film, better realizer.

In June 2007, The Pirate Bay proposes a service of lodging of images without censure, Bayimg.

September 21st, 2007, The Pirate Bay announces its intention to prosecute several companies of culture industry following the publication of communications of the company MediaDefender. These communications, largely diffused on Internet, if they are authentic, would show that MediaDefender would have acts for the account of these companies while trying to sabotage in various ways the trackers of The Pirate Bay.
