The Phantom of the Opera

the Phantom of the Opera is a novel of Gaston Leroux published in 1910 (magazine by André Castaigne). It is inspired by actual facts which occurred with the Opéra Garnier in second half of the 19th century and by the fire of the Bazar of the Charity which occurred the May 5th 1897 and which made 135 dead.

History

Strange phenomena occur with the opera. A gloss crumbles during a representation, a machinist is found hung… But the character of which some affirm to have seen the skeletal head seems to be only one human; indeed the directors of the opera see themselves claiming 20.000 francs per month on behalf of some Fantôme of the Opera which also requires that the cabin number 5 be reserved to him. But stranger still, a young named orphan singer " Christine Daaé" , collected by the woman of her professor of song, hears his name during the night and she would even say to have seen and have met famous Fantôme of the Opera.
