History

Claude Chappe carries out his first public experiment of remote communication in Brûlon on March 2nd 1791. The experiment consisted in placing two mobile dials equipped with needles and figures, called tachograph, respectively installed in its native village of Brûlon, distant of 14 km, and the village of Parcé. The experiment, which consisted in sending a message in each direction, was succeeded and authenticated by an official report. Claude Chappe could, with this evidence of operation, to go to Paris to promote his invention.
