The Old man Cordelier number 1 number 2

the Old man Cordelier number, 1 number 2 (December 5th and 10th 1793).

Camille Desmoulins lance the first number of a new newspaper, the Old man Cordelier. It was pushed by Georges Jacques Danton, which encourages it to make of them a new platform of Indulgence and Indulgents.

Number 1 of December 5th, 1793

This first edition seems written with the glory of Maximilien de Robespierre. But Camille Desmoulins by denouncing the Hébertistes as agents of William Pitt - it uses for that the denunciation and the letters of François Chabot - and by proclaiming the purity of all the others Montagnards, did not forget his/her old friend: in the wake of Maximilien de Robespierre, it can praise the merits of sound " emulate in patriotisme" , the man who walks with the Revolution: Georges Danton, who it defends against the attacks of Hébertistes.

Number 2 of December 10th, 1793

The second number has a significant title: vis-a-vis the Father Duchesne , the writer asserts the title of democrat of first hour, it had been those which had " overcome Bastille" , of those which had founded the first republican club before the letter, of those which had pourfendu without slackening the royal and aristocratic despotism in a time when certain ultra-revolutionary as Jacques-Rene Hébert showed themselves reserved not to say accessory. The best among the patriots of 1793 was well like Camille Desmoulins, those which, not having waited more than one year to decide for the Republic, were dice the beginning raised against an aristocracy with the thousand political dressings-up. By its " terrorisme" affirmed Camille Desmoulins, Jacques-Rene Hébert contributed to divide the patriots whereas it was known well that only the unit of the former members of the State Third against the aristocracy was pledge of victory. Much more the action of Jacques-Rene Hébert was marked seal of treachery, it was " party of the étranger" and Robespierre had well reason it to fight, him and its faction. This number two contained talented and forces diatribe against the extremists of propagandism, the " prussien" Cloots and consorts who, with the demagogic claim which contains in germ the ruin of the Revolution, unite the crime par excellence: atheism dechristianisator.

Like the first number, the Cordelier Old man contained also panygeric action of the most eminent member of the Comité of public hello, Maximilien Robespierre. This action was presented in terms of a outraged slavish flattery that in other times one will say being that " excessively pious people with the worship of the personnalité". Vis-a-vis the ultra-revolutionary ones, Camille Desmoulins drew up to some extent the statue of the Commander behind whom Georges Danton and his friends would shelter.

" The victory remained us, wrote Camille Desmoulins, because in the middle of so much of ruins of colossal reputations of good citizenship, that of Robespierre is upright… We overcame however, because after the striking down speeches of Robespierre of which it seems that the talent grows with the dangers of the Republic, and the major impression which he had left in the hearts, it was impossible to raise the voice against Danton, without so to speak giving a public receipt of Pitt". Maximilien de Robespierre, Georges Danton: even combat.

" Consulting deputy that nobody consulted since June 3rd, 1793 any more, was ironical it, I leave my cabinet and my chair to arm, where I had all the leisure to follow, by the menu, all the new system of our enemies whose Robespierre had only the masses to you, and that its occupations at the Committee of public hello did not enable him to embrace, like me, in its entier".
