Summary

The intrigue proceeds on the grounds of Illyrie on which the duke Orsino reigns. It tests an insane love for the beautiful one and rich Olivia countess. But this one is reticent with this love. The part starts on a beach after a storm which caused the shipwreck of a ship condemning the near total of its crew to death. This ship had amongst other things on its Sebastien board and Viola of Messaline. The twins have both survived the drowning but did not fail the same place. Violated is persuaded that his/her brother drowned and vice versa. Not taking place any where to go they decide both to go to the court of Orsino. Sebastien will spend three months more to go there. During time Violated itself with decided to be made pass for a man (Césario) in order to be able to serve the duke with which it will fall in love. The duke will entrust the task to Césario to make the court with Olivia. The things become complicated when Olivia, instead of accepting the love of the duke will be éprise of Césario… It is only on arrival of Sebastien that the things are arranged. Indeed, Olivia will marry it because it resembles milks for feature with Césario from which the mask now fell. Seeing that, the duke decides to marry Viola.

During creation, there was an additional degree of Travestissement which exploited an ambiguous erotism still more: indeed all the female characters were interpreted by men, as it was the use at the time. It was thus an young man playing a young lady who gets dressed as a boy and is made court.
