the mystery of the large pyramid is an album of Cartoon of the series Blake and Mortimer created by Edgar P. Jacobs. It was published in two volumes in 1954 and 1955.

The major part of the action proceeds with the Cairo, in the city itself and on the plate of Gizeh (called in the albums plate of Giza) to the foot of the pyramids. A share of the continuation proceeds in the museum of Egyptian antiquities.

Synopsis

Professor Ahmed Rassim Bey, conservative of the Museum of Egyptian antiquities , invites his friend professor Mortimer, who spends his holidays to Cairo with his Nasir trusty servant, to try to decipher papyruses coming from a boarding of Momie of the time of the Ptolémées. All goes for best, until Olrik, which did not die seeks to seize the Egyptian treasure describes in the cartridge.

Blake is left for died at the end of the first volume and Mortimer will discover which role plays the Grossgrabenstein Egyptologist as well as the power of the old Sheik.

Comments

The war is finished, the heroes of the Secret of the Swordfish will be found involved in a fight against the plunderers of tombs which act on the Egyptian territory. Edgar P. Jacobs evokes also the history of old Egypt by using the decoration of the pyramids of the plate of Gizeh. It mixes with the police history, pretext of the continuation between Mortimer and Olrik, a mystical evocation of the reign of Akhénaton and disappearance of the worship of Aton. It also evokes the founder of the museum of Cairo through a engraved stone which mentions a room hidden in the large pyramid.

The album character by a formidable lesson of Egyptology, whose visit with accompanying notes of the museum of Cairo and that of the pyramid of Khéops are the points of organ. A documentation extrémement excavated and precise supports each drawing of a photographic realism which says one is in the beginning many archaeological vocations started at the readers.

In this album mix with the characters already appeared in the Secret of the Swordfish (the heroes Blake and Mortimer, Nasir, Olrik and Bezendjas) and of the characters specific to this adventure. The latter are in majority Egyptians (Ahmed Rassim Bey, Commissaire Kamal) or related to Egyptology (Doctor Grossgrabenstein). The new right-hand man of Olrik, Sharkey appears in this album. The author also uses the old story by putting in scenes two Pharaons: Akhénaton and Toutânkhamon (spelled All-Ankh-Amon in the album).
