The Money Tower

the Tower of Money is a French gourmet restaurant of the 5th district of Paris, among oldest of Europe, founded in 1582 by Rourteau. It is in particular known for the impregnable panoramic sight which it offers on the the Seine and on the Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Paris of the island of the City.

History

Rourteau

In 1582 with the 16th century, Rourteau, Large chief cook, founds the restaurant of elite “L'Hostellerie of the Money Tower” in the middle of Paris with “exceptional” sight on the the Seine and the Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Paris in current the 5 {{E}} district in a tower Renaissance style spangled Mica whose brightness gives the name to the establishment. The king Henri III of France becomes one accustomed of the places and comes to taste there boiled chicken or Pâté of héron after his shooting parties.

At the 17th century, Louis XIV and all its court come to eat there since the Château of Versailles, and the Cardinal of Richelieu likes to taste there a Oie with the Pruneau X. The Duke of Richelieu made there adapt a whole Ox in thirty different ways (Richelieu Ox) and Madam de Sévigné comes to taste Chocolat there.

At the 18th century (Age of Enlightenment), the Money Tower is one of the florets of the French kitchen until the French revolution where it is ransacked by the revolutionists.

Frederic Delair

In 1890 Frederic Delair reopens this mythical place and invents celebrates it “Tour duck of numbered Money” been useful in front of the customer with a famous ritual.

Georges Sand, Alfred de Musset, Alexandre Dumas or Honore de Balzac is accustomed.

Andre Terrail

In 1911, Andre Terrail, buy the restaurant with Frederic Delair before being mobilized for the First World War during which it closes his establishment. His/her Claude son is born on December 4th, 1917 with Paris.

In 1918, it is demobilized and it decides to modernize its establishment and to entrust the kitchens of them to François Lespinas, former chief of the king d' Egypte. The restaurant becomes again one of the high world gastronomical places with for accustomed Marcel Proust, Sacha Guitry, El Salvador Dalí, Jacqueline Kennedy-Onassis

In 1922, André buys the close building and makes amalgamate the 15 and 17 of the Quai of the Small tower then adds to it a sixth stage in 1936 with large picture window and panoramic sight “exceptional” on the island of the City, the the Seine and the Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Paris.

In 1928, André makes build the Hôtel George V vis-a-vis her private mansion with the 31 Avenue George V close to the Avenue of the Fields-Élysées in the 8th district of Paris. One of the most luxurious de luxe hotel of Paris and of the world.

In 1933, the Tower of Money is gratifiée famous 3 {{E}} star of the Guide Michelin the year of the creation of the famous French gastronomical guide.

In June 1936, his/her Claude son 26 years old begins at the restaurant in room as host.

In 1940, during the Second world war, the staff Nazi takes possession of the places. Claude Terrail walls the cellar of his own hands to hide them: 500000 bottles which are there without being never discovered and voluntarily engages in the the 2nd armor-plated division of the Général Leclerc.

Claude Terrail

In 1947, Claude Terrail who dreams to become actor of Théâtre and Cinéma succeeds his father as host after his baccalaureat and made Tower of Money its permanent Théâtre for daily festivals admirably developing the art of the reception, elegance, the Charisme, the eloquence. It receives highnesses, Heads of State, politicians, stars, writers, artists, of which the Empereur of Japan Hirohito, the queen Elisabeth II of the United Kingdom, John Kennedy, Orson Welles, John Wayne, Errol Flynn, Ava Gardner, Marilyn Monroe etc

It develops the exceptional cellar of the Money Tower under the the Seine with: 450000 bottles as well as the living room Georges V in 1951 and the Orangery in 1953

It acquires or creates gradually many establishments in France and abroad, of which New York and Tokyo.

In 1980 Claude is made commander of the Legion of honor by Madam the marshal's wife Leclerc de Hauteclocque. His/her André son (of the same first name that his/her grandfather) is born, born of a second marriage with Tarja, Mannequin of Finnish origin .

In 1982, the Tower of Money celebrates its 400 years.

In 1984 Claude makes build a Money Tower with Tokyo with the Japan.

In 1996, Claude Terrail “is deeply wounded in its self-esteem” by the loss of its third star of the Guide Michelin. Claude Lebey, director of the Guide Michelin, accustomed establishment for thirty years, has reproached him never for not having made evolve/move its chart compared to competition since obtaining its third stars in 1933: Brouillade with the truffles Vincent Bolloré 85 €, diaphanous pike quenelles 45 €, Mazarine duckling with orange 120 € for two, puffed up Elisabeth princess 64 € for two… Many customers also reproach Claude for being too much carried on the small excessive savings in all kinds as well as a certain carelessness incompatible with its level of standing and price.

In 1997, Claude tells his many biographical memories rich in anecdotes, moods, emotions and photographs related to its restaurant in the novel of the Money Tower to the editions of Seek-Midday.

In 2003, Claude establishes his son André the April 29th, the day of the sacrifice of the millionth “Tour duck of Money”.

In 2006, in full crisis of the Avian flu, it loses its second star of the Guide Michelin then becomes blind man following a Cerebral vascular accident, then disappears on June 1st, 2006 after being hospitalized following a faintness, at the 88 years age. It will have devoted 50 years of its life to the one of the most famous tables in the world of the French gastronomy.

Andre Terrail (2ère of the name)

In 2006, André Terrail (second of the name) succeeds his father at the 26 years age to the head of the group of 150 people and the rich Money Tower four hundred years of history with the support of his/her Tarja mother. He entrusts the kitchens to the Grand chief cook Stephan Hating.

He begins again celebrates it currency of the house: “It is nothing more serious than the pleasure”, and its traditional specialities: duckling Turn of Money, pike quenelles “Andre Terrail”, pear “Parisian life”, etc

Specialities

Invented in 1890 per Frederic Delair, celebrates it “Tour duck of numbered Money” is been useful in front of the customer with a famous ritual. The Duck semi-savage raised by the famous Burgaud house of Challans in the Vendée, is cut out in front of the customer by a canardier then the carcass is in a hurry in a silver press (sold: 9500 € in shop) and exudes the last drop in the sauce (bubble and liver of duck) to which is added a feature of cognac, of Citron and Madeira. In 1870 at the time of the Transformations of Paris under the Second Empire, the famous English Café (one the most run of of Paris) is shaved and the owner, (the beautiful father of Andre Terrail first of the name), French wine official supplier of the courses of England, Prussia and Russia, transfers his important stock in the cellars of the Tower from money.

The oldest wine bottles are Bordeaux which go back to approximately 1845. As for the brandies, oldest is a cognac (Clos of Griffier) which goes back to 1788.

In 1981 David Ridgway, chief Wine waiter of English origin 21 years old, arrives in France where it begins as made Sommelier with the Money Tower then becomes chief Sommelier of a brigade of 15 wine waiters 6 months later. It personally will select the wines in the vineyards 2 times per month, to impregnate soils and work of the Vigneron S and diversifies the references of vintages in cellar of: 1000 with: 15000.

Dimensions

The restaurant was classified three stars with the Guide Michelin of 1933 to 1952 and 1953 to 1996 with André and Claude Terrail. In 1996 it is retrogressed with two stars, then with a star since 2006 with Claude Terrail (second of the name).
