The Mississippi John Hurt

the Mississippi John Hurt , born John Smith Hurt (March 8th 1892 with Teoc, the Mississippi - November 2nd 1966, in Grenada, the Mississippi) was a singer and guitarist of Blues and Folk.

In 1928, it recorded its first titles of Blues to Memphis (Tennessee), of which “ Frankie ” and “ Nobody' S Dirty Business ”, which left in 78 Turns at Okeh Records.

Tommy Rockwell then makes it come to New York to engrave new pieces (“ Candy Man ”, “ Stack O Lee Blues ”). It meets Lonnie Johnson there.

The name of the Mississippi John Hurt plunges then in the lapse of memory to come out from it only in 1963 where, redécouvert by a musicologist, it records new titles with Washington. It occurs then in Newport Folk Festival, then in Philadelphia Folk Festival.

Its music is a mixture subtle of Blues, of Country, Bluegrass, of Folk and Rock-and-roll. It is its play of refined guitar and its soft voice which characterizes its style.
