The Mission inside China

the Mission inside China is a company of missions in China, founded by Hudson Taylor on June 25th 1865 in Brighton.

Context

As of 1860, the China is a country coveted in north and the west by the Russia, in the east by the Japan, in the south by Europeans, in particular the French. The French Catholic church obtains freedom of movement of the priests, which extends then to the Italians, the Belgians, then with other nationalities. In 1870, there are approximately 400.000 catholics, 600 Chinese priests and 700 missionaries. Others arrive.

Hudson Taylor, missionary of the Chinese Company of evangelization, does not find in China of company sharing the spiritual principles of faith and prayer which he professes. During a leave in England, it founds " The Mission inside Chine" , whose missionaries are vêtus with Chinese. The May 26th 1866 the first group arrives in China on the " Lammermuir" after a voyage four months.

Principles and actions

The " interior mission of Chine" lately founded works according to the principles establish by Taylor. In 1872, the council of London is formed. In 1875 begins the systematic evangelization of China.

Eighteen missionary S additional are necessary in 1881 to cover the nine provinces still not - glazes, followed from 70 others, then of 100 in 1886. There were on several occasions crises within the mission, which was also the target of attacks. Taylor did not cease however travelling to recruit.

In 1900, attacks take place during the Révolte of the Boxers. The same year, Dixon Edward Hoste takes the direction of the mission, which establishes bonds with the movements " Revival" and " Holiness". In 1951, it must withdraw country after the seizure of power by the Communist party. It continues from now on its work in other countries of the Far East under the name of Overseas Missionary Fellowship (OMF).
