the Melody of happiness ( The Sound off Music ) is an American film of Robert Wise left in 1965. It is about a Musical film based on the book of Maria Augusta Trapp, the Family of the singers Trapp .

  • the film, left in 1965, accepted the Oscar better film of the year. Robert Wise gained the Oscar of the best realizer for this production where Julie Andrews plays Maria and Christopher Plummer is Georg von Trapp. Oscar Hammerstein II died before the film is not created and two of the songs were written by Richard Rodgers: I Cuts Confidence and Something Good .
  • It contains several songs with success, of which Edelweiss , My Favorite Things (become standard of Jazz thanks to John Coltrane), Climb Ev' ry Mountain , C-Re-Semi and The Lonely Goatherd , as well as the song of the same title The Sound off Music (included in particular in Moulin-Rouge! .

  • At the time, this film became the second best salesman with the Box-office, after Gone With The Wind . In spite of its enormous popularity, the famous film criticism Pauline Kael called the film the Melody of mucus . The magazine supposedly put a term at the contract of Kael as a criticism.

  • This same expression (" sound off mucus") was also employed by Christopher Plummer, the main actor, who considered that " to play with Julie Andrews was like being made knock on the head the every day with a large chart of Saint-Valentin".

  • In 2001, the Bibliothèque of the Congress regards it as “culturally important” and preserves it in the national register of the films (National Film Registry).

  • the film is third for the absolute number of sold tickets (142.415.400 tickets) and out of crude adjusted according to inflation (911 458400  USD) in the North America (after Gone With The Wind and Star Wars ). Combined with the number of sold video cassettes, sold DVD and the regular diffusions on television, it most amply becomes “the film produced by an Hollywood studio considering” (according to Amazon.uk).

  • the family counts five girls and two boys: Liesl (16 years), Friedrich (14 years), Louisa (13 years), Kurt (11 years), Brigitta (10 years), Marta (6 years) and Gretl (5 years).

  • This film is practically unknown in Austria, except in the hotels of Salzburg, where it is daily projected.

  • In some publicities of film, an error occurs in the scene of the market right before the number C-Re-Semi : an orange case is marked Made in Israel . However, the state Israel did not exist during the Années 1930. The film does not contain this scene.

  • Another error hides in the scene where the family goes in the mountains, probably on the way towards freedom in Switzerland. According to people with the current of the geography of this country, they go towards Austria.

  • the Austrian traditional dance that Maria and the captain carry out together at the time of the ball is the Landler.

  • All the songs were not doubled. The song " Maria" was " partiellement" doubled like " Climb every mountain".
