The Meadow

the Meadow is a Ville south-west of the Quebec, located at the confluence of the Fleuve the St. Lawrence, on southern bank of the Fleuve, and the Saint-Jacob river.

History

Before in fact the Jésuites occupied in first the current site of the Meadow, site named Prairie of Magdelaine and called Saint-François-Xavier-of-Meadows . The ground was granted to them by Jacques of Ferté of the Compagnie of the Hundred-Associates in 1647. In 1845 is founded the municipality of the village of Laprairie . One year later, it is that of Laprairie-with-the-Magdelaine which is created. It is in 1909 that the Meadow obtained its statute of city.

The realization of a railroad, out of wood, between the Meadow and Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu largely accelerated the commercial development of the village. The maritime transport with also played a very important part in the history laprairienne.

In 1668, the site was named under the name iroquois Kentaké which means with the meadow. In the beginning of the history montréalaise, the territory of the Meadow to many recoveries was visited by Iroquois and English of New York, inter alia during forwarding anglo-iroquoise of Peter Schulyer in 1691.
