The Mask and the feather

the Mask and the Feather is a radio program of France Inter presented by Jerome Garcin every Sunday of 20:10 to 21:00 This emission is dedicated either to the criticism of the delivers S, or with the parts of Théâtre, or with the Cinéma. Each Sunday, the topic of the emission changes, with however an advantage for the cinema to which more hours are devoted.

This emission is one of oldest radio Frenchwoman. She was created on November 13rd, 1955 by Michel Polac and François-Governed Country house, amalgamating two former emissions, one relating to the theater, the other the literature. She is diffused to leave in 1956 on the waves Paris Inter, the ancestor of France Inter and becomes the prototype of the cultural radiophonic program for general public. The cinema enters there starting from 1957. Michel Polac leaves the plate in 1970. In 1982, Pierre Bouteiller takes the direction of the emission to replace Country house. The direct one is privileged but the little by little isolated interventions of the public. The emission passes gradually from two hours to one hour. Jerome Garcin succeeds Pierre Bouteiller in 1989.

For several years, the emissions have been recorded with studio 106 of the House of the Radio to Paris Thursday evening. They are it under the “conditions of direct”, without cuts nor assembly. It happens however that the team moves in provincial towns as on January 30th, 2003 with Orleans where an emission was recorded in the big room of the cinema the Carmelite friars.

Each year since 1990, on the initiative of Jerome Garcin, the listeners of the mask and the feather are encouraged to indicate their French film and foreigner of the year.
