A castle, built at the beginning of XIesiècle, at the time of the count of Anjou Foulque Nerra, rose at the edge of the the Sarthe, of which it supervised the navigation.

In XVIIesiècle, the Marquise of Sévigné returned visit there to the marchioness of Lavardin.
