The Mézy-on-Seine

the Mézy-on-Seine is a common department of the Yvelines, in the area Île-de-France, in France, to approximately 12 km in the east of Mantes-the-Pretty. Its inhabitants are called Méziacois.

The commune of the Mézy-on-Seine is included in the perimeter of the Regional natural park of French Vexin. “Mézy” derives from a Gallo-Roman proper name Masius .

Geography

It is a commune whose territory extends on Right Bank from the the Seine in edge from the Seine and in the wooded solid mass of the Hautil in extreme cases southern of the French Vexin. It also includes a island of the Seine, the island of Mézy, opposite the Flins-on-Seine. The commune is bordering on Juziers in the west, Seraincourt and Oinville-on-Montcient in North, on Hardricourt in the east and, separated by the Seine, on the Mureaux and the Flins-on-Seine in the south.

It is served by the secondary road D190, very attended, which connects Poissy to Mantes-the-Pretty. It is crossed by the line ferrovaire Paris-Saint-Lazare - Mantes-the-Pretty via Conflans-Holy-Honorine

History

  • Located on a slope exposed to the south, Mézy was a long time a wine village.

Monuments

  • Saint-Germain Church: church of the 13th century, destroyed during the one hundred year old war and rebuilt in XVIe century. It was classified historic building in 1926.
  • Château: building of the 15th century, classified historic building in 1996.
  • Villa Paul Poiret: work of the architect Robert Mallet-Stevens built in 1924-1925 for the dressmaker Paul Poiret. Registered with the additional inventory of historic buildings in 1984.

Celebrities

  • Berthe Morisot, impressionist painter, resided at Mézy of 1890 with 1891.
  • Elvire Popesco, actress, lived until 1985 in the villa Paul Poiret which it had repurchased with the dressmaker in 1930.
  • Paul Poiret: dressmaker, that which released the woman of the corset.
  • Albert Dubout: cartoonist, resided at Mézy of 1965 to 1976.
