the Méry-on-Seine is a common French, located in the department of the Aube and the area Champagne-Ardenne.

Geography

In the North-West of the Department of the Paddle, between the Troyes-Paris road and Anglure, on the road of Sézanne, in a depression of the Champagne plain, the Méry-on-Seine is primarily built on Right Bank of the Seine river, with 82 meters of altitude. The borough of the Méry-on-Seine is bordered, in north, by the channel of the High Seine which connected the Aube river initially, close to Marcilly-sur-Seine, in the middle of the town of Troyes. In the Méry-on-Seine, the Seine river receives the small river of the Mill.

Personalities related to the commune

Among Méryciens famous, Mister Adolphe PLONK , born in the Méry-on-Seine in 1844 and buried in the same city in 1934. Gynecologist-obstétricien, professor at the Medical college of Paris, member of the Academy of Medicine, it made progress the techniques of childbirth. He, in particular, invented the Stéthoscope known as " of Pinard". During did the Great War, professor PINARD, being interested in the wine given to the soldiers and noting the damage caused by certain diseases, recommend to add mercury to it (?) and to distribute it in the trenches! Some suggest that the soldiers, finding with this beverage a strange taste, would have called it " pinard" , of the name of its inventor. At all events, the soldiers redemandaient some and tried to increase the capacity of their cans to have larger rations of them. One is, certainly, far from the etymology suggested by the linguists for the word plonk. But, that the origin of the word is essential provided that one has intoxication to believe in it! And besides, the two origins are perhaps completely compatible.
