Comment

the Lover is a complex work; one should not see only there the history of an young girl who finds a rich person Chinese lover and who has family difficulties. The adaptation of Jean-Jacques Annaud is based only on that, this is why Marguerite Duras, not finding there the message which she wanted to make pass, did not like it not.

Lasted does not take place the will of reality, thus, the names, and all the “additional” elements are not inevitably registered in the real life of Marguerite Duras. The remainder is imagined, but imagination, under the influence of the Inconscient, gives a track to Duras to find the 15 year old young girl and half which it was.

the Lover is a true account of formation. Heroin has obstacles to cross: interdicts.

It has opponents: its family, the father of the Chinese, the colonial company which does not accept the relations between Asiatiques and Européens. It must pass a physical test, a first sexual relation. The writing of the Lover expresses uncertainties of this search of oneself and the will to only direct its life. The transformation into writing of its first physical experiment is a sign of the takeover of Marguerite Duras on itself, it acts of a release.

The character of the mother has two faces: on a side she loves her daughter like a normal mother, other side, her money desire, which she transmitted to her children, the growth with practically prostituer his/her daughter. She gives him an almost transparent dress, buys gilded shoes and a pink hat of man to him. That, the girl included/understood it, and it accepted it, always to earn more money. But never this subject is not explicitly tackled, they play a game based on unvoiced comments.
