The Love doctor

the Love doctor is a Comedy-ballet in three acts and prose written by Molière on a music of Jean-Baptiste Lully, represented for the first time at the Château of Versailles by order of the King the September 14th 1665, and then given to Paris with the Théâtre of the Palais Royal the September 22nd 1665 by the troop of the King. It is about the first part put in scene by the troop of Molière as a troop of the King.

Summary

Confronted with the austerity of a father who refuses to him to marry Clitandre, Lucinde decides to pretend the disease with the complicity of Smoothing iron, its following. Sganarelle, the father, then decides to make come from the doctors, of which it notes the incompetence well quickly. Smoothing iron announces whereas she knows a revolutionary doctor who makes miracles. Thus, disguised as a doctor, Clitandre manages to approach Lucinde for the first time, then to marry it by pretexting a fictitious marriage as psychological remedy which is with the final real good.

Comments

The part is built according to a typically moliéresques diagram and an intrigue.

Molière warns the reader: “ It is here only one simple pencil, small impromptu, whose king wanted to be made an entertainment. It is precipitated the most of all those which Its Majesty ordered me; and when I say that he was proposed, made, learned and was represented in five days, I will say only what is true ”. There is also the usual questioning the ironic of the doctors, as well as the scene of salesman of orviétan, critical of publicity before the hour.
