The Lottery in Babylon

the Lottery in Babylon (in Spanish: ES the lotería in Babilonia ) is a news of Jorge Luis Borges published in the collection Fictions , which describes a thorough Loterie with its Paroxysme.

The narrator, inhabitant of old a Mésopotamie of fiction, described the installation of a lottery. Little by little, helping success, this one evolve/move: introduction of batches other than pécuniers (political loads…), then of negative or null batches to increase the suspense (custodial sentences, pain-killers objects…). Lastly, the lottery becomes secret and obligatory. One cannot then any more distinguish, in the events of the life, which comes from the lottery, nor even if it still exists.

A reflection on the influence of the chance on the life.

The Company which organizes the lottery is also a Métaphore of God: all-powerful, its objectives are incomprehensible with the eyes of Babylonian, which can only be subjected to it.
