the Lizard (Dr. Curt Connors) is an enemy of Spider-Man in the cartoon created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko in 1963.
History
Dr. Curt Connors,
Surgery N in the army, lost his arm during the Guerre of Korea and had to give up exerting the surgery. He undertook the scientific study of the Reptile S which, unlike the Mammifère S, preserved the capacity to regenerate their missing members. He discovered that this capacity was with a precise chemical substance, that he absorbed. Its arm pushed back but the mutagen effect of the substance involved a transformation of all the body which took a form reptilio-humanoïde. Spider-Man invented a potion which reversed the effects of the first substance, but the genetic changes which had affected Connors persisted and this one continued to be transformed periodically into Lizard. The transformation is started by certain chemical and electromagnetic stimuli.
Spiderman must with each confrontation with the lizard call upon its knowledge in physics and in chemistry because it is an adversary very coriace and in more it knows that Connors is this animal. Connors will be always faithful for him and will help it in the difficult moments as when it pushes six arms to him for example.
Doctor Connors has a woman and a child who adore it. They are deeply grateful in Spiderman for the assistance that it brings to them.
Capacities
The Lizard has a superhuman force which it owes with its form reptilienne. It raises approximately 12 tons. The powerful muscles of its legs enable him to jump without dash 3,60 m in height and 5,40 m in length. Its reaction time is approximately half of that of human normal and when it runs, its speed can reach 72 km/h.
It has a 2 m length tail. Its feet and its hands are finished by some 2,5 cm length retractile claws. Its fingers and its toes are covered with a quantity of tiny claws forming of the adhesive pads, which enables him to climb with the walls. When it is transformed into Lizard, the part of its brain containing the most bestial impulses carries it and it becomes little by little inhuman. Lastly, it can also control by telepathy all the reptiles with more than one kilometer with the round.
Anecdotes
At the time of a duel between Spiderman and the Lizard, alias Connors, the human Torch (a Fantastic member of the
) intervenes. This last has well evil to include/understand why Spiderman requires of him to spare their enemy (in fact, Spiderman protects the secrecy from Connors).
One of the easy ways of Spiderman against terrible Lézard is to use the cold, it makes it return in a freezer wagon and hop, the very vulnerable Lizard being cold, Spiderman makes only one mouthful of it.
The maggia kidnaps Doctor Connors so that he deciphers a shelf of the Dead Sea (see Manuscrits of Qumrân) which conceals the secrecy of eternal youth. They threaten its family. Doc. Connors is an excellent chemist and, fearing for its family, it does what one asks him. The chief of the maffiosi obtains what he wanted, but discovers the terrible price too late to be paid. During this time, Connors changes in spite of him of the creature called the Lizard. ; the unhappy maffiosi which is put on its way is swept without one ounce of compassion.
Comparison
Literary reference
This character is one of the multiple misadventures of the novel going back from 1886 the Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and to Mr. Hyde by Stevenson.
Comparison with Hulk
The character of
Hulk /Bruce Banner presents similarities with the Lizard/Doc. Connors: an intelligent and weak scientist, being able to transform itself into a strong and frightening creature. On the other hand, the Lizard is basically malicious, whereas Hulk has right need that it is included/understood: when it destroys several Gratte-ciel, it is right because the events led it to be put in anger.
One can as notice as, in addition to the white blouse of scientist, the lizard is vêtu of purple pants, like the shorts of Hulk.
