The Verve was a British group of Britpop of the Années 1990.

Regarded a long time as one of the groups more innovating and captivating of the British contemporary pop scene, The Verve made finally surface in 1997 with the immediate success of Bittersweet Symphony . In addition to this fulgurating success, the rise of the group was actually the result a length and testing voyage which began at dawn from the Années 1990 and whose unfolding was disturbed by a separation, multiple legal proceedings, as well as an important consumption of Narcotique S. History

First of all known simply under the name of Liveliness, the group was formed in 1989 with Wigan, a small town of the north of the England. Carried out by magnetic the Richard Ashcroft, the original composition of the group included/understood the guitarist Nick McCabe, the bass player Simon Jones and the beater Peter Salisbury.

Sharing the same affection for the rock'n'roll and the Funk (as much as the same attraction for the Psychédélisme), the quartet signed with the label Hut records in hardly a few months, after their first concert in London. In 1992 individual the All in the Mind is the first of a series of titles indie which profited in particular from the captivating graphic work of the designer Brian Canon for the jackets. The titles which followed, such as She' S.A. Superstar and Gravity Grave captured the true musical identity of the group, been used by the majestic voice of Ashcroft and the oneiric guitar as McCabe.

Although Verve found a long time its place in the British charts indie, the radios went to see elsewhere. In 1993, their first album, has Storm In Heaven , produced by John Leckie, true fan of the group, was a commercial disaster, criticisms positive not having is enough to stimulate the sales. The summer which followed, Verve appeared on the scene of Lollapalooza and started a round which was a true catastrophe. Not only Salisbury was stopped to have destroyed a hotel room at the time of a passage to the Kansas, but Ashcroft was also hospitalized after having been victim of severe a Déshydratation. During this same period, the label of American Jazz Verve Records launched a lawsuit against the group, forcing the quartet to officially change their name into The Verve .

The following album, has Northern Soul left in 1995, was the icing on the cake. Although Ashcroft gave The Verve on foot a few weeks later, McCabe refused to reinstate the group, and was replaced by the guitarist Simon Tong. Announced by the tube Bittersweet Symphony , built around an extract of a symphonic version of the title The Last Time of the Rolling Stones interpreted by the Andrew Loog Oldham Orchestrated. This song made its entry in the British charts in the second place and marked the summer 1997. The album Urban Hymns propelled The Verve to the row of the most popular groups of the the United Kingdom and allowed him to take down three rewards with the Brit Awards, of which that of the best British group.
