The Legend off Zelda: Link\' S Awakening

The Legend off Zelda: Link' S Awakening (ゼルダの伝説夢をみる島, or Zeruda No Densetsu: Yume O Miru Shima ) is a play of role and action left in 1993 on Game Boy, developed and published by Nintendo. It is the first opus of the series Zelda on a portable console. The play is republished on Game Boy Color in 1998, under the name The Legend off Zelda: Link' S Awakening DX (夢をみる島 DX, or Zelda No Densetsu: Yume O Miru Shima DX ), gaining there graphics colors and a new keep. Shigeru Miyamoto and Takashi Tezuka is the authors, and the musics of the play are the work of Koji Kondo, type-setter for many Nintendo plays.

The scenario

With the launching of the play, Link is surprised by a storm whereas it sails on an agitated sea. Struck by the lightning, its dark boat. Link escapes from the shipwreck and fails on a beach of the Cocolint island where it is collected by Marine, an young girl, who points out the Princesse Zelda to him. Link finds its sword on the beach, and its shield is returned to him by Tarkin, the father of Navy. Then a Hibou arrives which him hulule:

“Awakes the Poisson-Dream and very you will be explained. ”

Determined to join to them his, Link will have to cross the island length into broad, to explore many keeps, to solve enigma on enigma in order to recover the eight instruments which will be able to release the guard of the island, the Poisson Rêve, of his sleep.

The recurring characters of the series The Legend off Zelda all absent, but are often curiously evoked; certain characters of the island although having different names people recall that Link knows. The Legend off Zelda: Link' S Awakening is an oneiric adventure, indeed it is often refers to the sleep, the dream and the nightmare. It is several times clearly indicated that all the island and its inhabitants are contained in the dream of the Poisson Rêve and will cease existing with its alarm clock. Moreover the end of play suggests that all the history is in fact only one dream of drifting Link on the ocean, dreams divided with the Poisson Rêve. This explains in a logical way why one finds almost no direct link with the world of Hyrule, Zelda or Ganon.

The dialogs are varied and evolutionary, and profit from a good translation. Some small details make the play more alive (angling, flight in the shops…).

Notice on the scenario

The Zelda series is not intended to have a particular chronology. It however was considered a long time that Link' S Awakening was the direct continuation of the episode Super Nintendo: has Link to the Past. Indeed, while being pressed on the handbook of play, it appeared the following thing: a few months after having overcome Ganon and having brought back peace in Hyrule, Link had decided to leave in search knowledge and wisdom in order to be held ready if a new threat had suddenly struck the kingdom. After a long Link tour, feeling rather extremely, decided to turn over in Hyrule. This directly seemed to follow the history of the opus Super Nintendo.

However, in 2001, Nintendo leaves two parallel episodes on the Game Boy Color  : The Legend off Zelda: Oracle off Old and The Legend off Zelda: Oracle off Seasons. The final sequence of these two plays, when one finishes one then the other, Link watch embarking on a small ship in a plan very similar to the plan of opening of Link' S Awakening. The sequence between these three plays thus seems today also plausible.
