the Legend of the invisible city of Kitège and the young lady Fevronia (in; ) opera of the Russian type-setter Nikolaï Rimski-Korsakov is a , on a booklet of Vladamir Belski. Completed in 1904 after five years of work, it was created with the Théâtre Mariinsky of Saint-Pétersbourg in 1907.
The subject of the opera is an old Russian popular legend, that of the town of Kitège which, in front of the threat of the Tatares and thanks to the prayers of holy Fevronia, became invisible and escaped the invaders. The legend is originally Chrétienne, but Rimski and Belski sought to erase any explicit reference and to carry out a fusion of the Christian influence and popular tradition Slavic. For this reason, the opera was regarded by certain as the Russian Parsifal . At all events, the majority agree to see in him the masterpiece of Rimski-Korsakov, by its balance between deeply Russian song and orchestra, its choruses and its airs, and its admirable orchestral passages. There remains however seldom represented on scene.
