The Large River (cry: Chisasibi ) is a river of the area of the North-of-Quebec, Quebec, which is thrown in the Baie James. Long, it 893 km takes its source on the Plate laurentien Canadian Bouclier with a rise of more than 500 meters. The natural area catchment Large River includes/understands 97  000 km ² and the natural flow rise with approximately 1  700 m ³ /s. Before its hydroelectric development, as from the years 1970, the Large River were the fourth more important river of Quebec, after the river the St. Lawrence and the Koksoak rivers, of the Nunavik, and Saguenay.

Since 1984, however, water of the higher course of Caniapiscau, one flowing of the Koksoak river, and the river Eastmain and its flowing Opinica, in the south, were diverted towards Large Rivère within the framework of the Projet of the Bay-James, carrying his medium flow with approximately 3  300 m ³ /s. the new catchment area include/understand approximately 177  000 km ², are 12  % of the surface of Quebec (or the third of that of the Metropolitan France).

Human settlements

On southern bank of the Large River are the village cry of Chisasibi, to 10 km of its mouth, and the village of Radisson, to approximately 100 km of the James bay and in the surroundings of the hydroelectric station Robert-Bourassa. Most of the catchment area of the Large River, whose many hydroelectric stations, belong to the municipality of the Bay-James.
