The Large-Mound
the Large-Mound is a common French, located in the department of the Herault and the area Languedoc-Roussillon.
Its inhabitants are the Large-Mottois.
Geography
The Large-Mound is located on the littoral coast of the Languedoc, on a Lido. It is delimited by two ponds, the pond of Gold in the North-West and the pond of the West in the east, supplied with the Vidourle. In the south, the sea the Mediterranean, and more precisely the Gulf of Acute-Dead (included in the Gulf of Lions), border its 3 ha of beaches.
It is surrounded by the communes of Mauguio in the west and north and of Acute-Dead and of the Grau-of-King in the east. These two last belong to the Département of Gard. One reaches it by two expressways of 20 km each one which connect it to the A9 and at the towns of Montpellier and Nimes.
The Large-Mound is subjected to the Mediterranean Climat characteristic of the south of France. The South appears among the areas of France where the summer is hottest: the average temperature for July in Montpellier east of 23,7° C. Moreover, the Large-Mound counts on average 369 sun H always in July.
Old territory and new district of the commune of Mauguio, the Large-Mound was detached from it after consultation of the inhabitants by the prefect of Herault in October 1974. As from 1970, it had proven that the inhabitants of the city-center and the new district did not have the same projects and the same vision of the role of the municipality in the future of the seaside resort. This planned station is used often as Modèle of Seaside resort in the formations of Géographie with the college and the university.
History
The current territory of the Large-Mound is an old part of the commune of Mauguio; at the time, this territory was used by the men because isolated little from the villages neighborhood by the pond of Gold. Starting from the Years 1960 and Mission Root , mission interdepartmental for the tourist installation of the littoral Languedoc-Roussillon, the Large-Mound becomes a Seaside resort created ex nihilo with port of pleasure, buildings, camp-sites… The objective was to divert the tourists of the Spanish destinations of the time. With the Large-Mound, the architect Jean Balladur created buildings pointing out the Pyramide S précolombien born.
In 1966, a dredger digs the port and the pond of the West and draws materials necessary to the fill ensuring the bases of the future city. In years 68, the first pyramids appear on the port (great bulwark…). Then in July 1975 proceeds the installation of the first stone of the Church St-Augustin. Lastly, in October 1975, proceeds a referendum in order to choose the name of the inhabitants: they will be " Large-Mottois". Thus the 344 favorable voters decided some (130 having voted against).

Nevertheless, the town hall tries to diversify its offer by attracting tourism of businesses related to its Palate of the Congresses, like proposing an entertaining activity all-with-length of the year to the population montpelliéraine in particular with a golf, a watery center and an aquarium. Moreover, the marina is one of principal of the zone.Even if the Large-Mound is one of the stations headlights of Languedoc, it is far from knowing the syndrome " morte" city; apart from the summer thanks to its many trade and with its college.
