the Lady of Shanghai ( The Lady from Shanghai ) is an American film of Orson Welles left in 1948.

Synopsis

Michael O' Hara becomes acquainted with which charms Elsa Bannister, which it saves shortly after of an aggression. This one, married to a rich person old lawyer, the fact of engaging on the yacht of this last. O' Hara will be found then taken between its attraction for Elsa and combine them fraudulent of Arthur Bannister, the lawyer, and of his associates.

A famous scene

Towards the end of film a scene takes place in an open attraction, a labyrinth of mirrors. A shooting proceeds there, and we see to crumble several times of the images of characters with/>Quelques breakings of glace.

Anecdotes

• the turning of the Lady of Shanghai began in a difficult way because the relations between Rita Hayworth and her husband Orson Welles worsened as much as it started a divorce procedure.

• Rita Hayworth was, at the time, the star of the Columbia, inter alia thanks to the film Gilda . Its long russet-red hair had become a whole Hollywood symbol. For this film, Welles imposed a short and fair cut to him. It was insinuated that was a revenge towards this woman of which it was divorcing, which Welles always denied.

• the legend wants that Welles, needing money to assemble a spectacle to Boston, called Harry Cohn, the owner of the Columbia, and proposed to him to immediately carry out a film for him against the sum that it needed. Cohn, acceptor, request which will be the title. Welles, looked around him, found a book police and lute the title: the lady of Shanghai .
