One can define the word the Kremlin , adapted of Russian Кремль , like the citadel of the city. The Russian old cities did not have walls, not excluded the central part with the Cathédrale, the palate of the sovereign of the city, etc
If one speaks about the Kremlin, one thinks especially of the the Kremlin of Moscow, which is a city in the city, a whole of palate, churches and cathedrals, enclosed in red walls. He is certainly the most famous Kremlin. Also there exists several other kremlins in Russia, for example the Kremlin of the Novgorod, Pskov, Kazan and other old cities.
The Kremlin of Moscow east one of the most famous districts of the city. It was built at the 14th century to protect the city from the Tartar . Dominating Moskova, this old triangular fortress contains churches (cathedral of the Assumption built in 1326, rebuilt in 1479, church of the Annunciation decorated by Roublev at the 15th century) and of the palates (Imperial palace built in 1838) transformed into museums or become the seat of the bodies of the the USSR then of the Russian state.
