History

The commune of the Kremlin-Bicêtre was created in 1896. Previously, it belonged to Gentilly.
The name of common has a double origin:
- at the 13th century, a bishop of Winchester made build a Château with the current site of the Hôpital. Its name was deformed in Vincestre , then Vicestre , Bicestre and finally Bicêtre .
- the Kremlin comes from the sign of a cabaret “To the sergeant of the Kremlin” which a former soldier of the armies of Napoleon opened, in remembering the countryside of Russia.
