The Kitchen
The Kitchen is a theater of New York to the the United States located in the district of Chelsea in the 19th street between the Eleventh and Douzième Avenue S. It is especially a non-profit organization, dedicated to the contemporary artists of horizons as varied as the music, the Contemporary dance, the literature, it video or the multi-media one.
The Kitchen was founded in 1971 by a collective of artists to present the most contemporary creations of the experimental type-setters like Steve Reich or Philip Glass, and of performers. Quickly it became a meeting place artistic interdisciplinary, in particular while being one of the first American institutions to promote the fields emerging of the video and the artistic performances, in particular choreographic. The Kitchen thus launched the careers of many American artists of avant-garde such as Vito Acconci, Constance of Jong, Gary Hill, Kiki Smith, Charles Atlas, Lucinda Childs, Elizabeth Streb, Bill T. Jones, Laurie Anderson, Philip Glass, and Meredith Monk.
In the years 1980, The Kitchen was essential internationally like an epicentre of experimental creations more the avant-gardists. Since 2004, it entered during one transitional period, and seems to lose a little sound will have and its innovation in its programming.
