The King off Fighters
The King off Fighters is a series of plays of combat in 2 dimensions of the editor Japan board SNK, which the first episode left in arcade like on the console created by this same company, the Neo-Geo, in 1994 and thereafter adapted on many platforms.
This series is a crossover the most known plays SNK, Fatal Fury and Art off Fighting . Y also appear of the characters of older plays like Ikari Warriors and Psycho Soldier , as well as new participants, some of them having become very popular thereafter.
The King off Fighters 2000 was the last episode of the saga entirely created by SNK which was seen then repurchased by Playmore/Eolith. Few employees remained. This repurchase crystallized fears of the fans and was at the origin of many controversies so much on the level symbolic system (emblematic value of the editor) that on the level of the quality of the episodes which followed. The new editor had to prove much while succeeding a legend. It was certainly revolving for the series which finally did not prevent it from continuing.
Gameplay
With The King off Fighters , SNK revolutionized the kind of the play of combat while proposing to the player to usually control a team of three combatants instead of only one, each participant entering the combat after the defeat of its predecessor in the team. This concept was taken again many times thereafter, but abandoned in the last version Neo-Geo of the series, The King off Fighters 2003 , with the profit of a system of Tag Battle, breaking with the style of the 9 preceding episodes.
The various episodes of the series use obviously sequences of blows (combo S), as well as an advanced system of fury S, trademark of Fatal Fury and Art off Fighting , and become pre necessary for any play of serious combat.
A system of " striker" was introduced into The King off Fighters '99 , allowing the player to add a fourth character to his team, this one being able to intervene during the combat to surprise the adversary, with the manner of the assistances of Marvel vs. Capcom . This system was improved in the following editions to allow the execution of attacks combining the forces of several combatants.
System of combo S
The combo S can be of two types.
That is to say the sequence is automatic, i.e. only one handling makes it possible to the player to carry out a succession of blows (e.g.: certain special blows), is it is manual. A manual sequence combines sometimes with an automatic sequence.
The manual combos are based on a logical system. Various types of blows can be connected in a certain order and always in the same direction. A " is thus created; chaîne" on this basis according to the capacities and of specificities of the selected character. All the episodes kept this diagram except for some modifications. The types of blows are combinable in the following order:
- normal blows carried out at the time of a jump
- normal blows
- " command moves"
- special blows or furies
