The Jackson Five
The Jackson Five ( J5 or Jackson 5ive ), commonly called “Jackson Five” in French, were a group of Soul and Blues originating in Gary in the Indiana. Managed by Joe Jackson, the starting group ( The Jackson Brothers ) was composed of his/her three oldest sons Sigmund Esco called Jackie (born on May 4th, 1951), Toriano Adaryll called Tito (born on October 15th, 1953) the leader of the group Jermaine (born on December 11th, 1954) like two musicians: Johnny Jackson (no relation), deceased on March 1st, 2006 and Ronnie Rancifer. In 1965 are added the Marlon juniors (born on March 12th, 1957) and Michael (born on August 29th, 1958) the Jackson Five . The youngest member of the group, Michael, which is then just 6 years old, quickly proves most charismatic and more endowed, therefore it will be proposed and will ensure the majority of the solos.
In 1968, the group signs on the label Motown and imposes a style quickly baptized “Bubblegum Soul” by Berry Gordy. The group connects individual classified Numéro 1 in Billboard ( I Want You Back , ABC , The Love You Save , and I' L Be There ) and becomes one of the florets of the Motown. They place 4 individual of the American charts at the head, which had not been seen since Beatles in 1964 (which had had six).
The “Jacksonmania” gains the country quickly. There will be even two series of cartoons which will be devoted to the group: The Jackson 5ive and The New Jackson 5ive Show (1971-1972, 24 episodes on the whole). One sees there the five brothers hero of animated series illustrated by their larger tubes (two per episode). The drawings of the characters were carried out by Jack Davis, according to videotapes. The voices of each hero were interpreted by professional actors and not by Jackson themselves. The scenario of the very first episode tells their meeting with Berry Gordy, the signing of their contract, the media presentation of Jackson 5 by Diana Ross and their beginnings at Motown.
In 1975, the phratry leaves Motown for CBS. Jermaine, preferring to remain within the free Motown the group and is quickly made replace by Randy (born on October 31st, 1961), youngest of the Jackson brothers. The name Jackson Five being the property of Motown, they were thus made call The Jacksons (“French Jackson”). The group takes from now on the direction of its works and occurs then with Las Vegas, inter alia. In addition, Jermaine will again join the group as of 1984 (Album Victory ). The boys maturing and testing themselves gradually with more thorough careers solo (Michael and Jermaine in particular), the group will slow down its activities to the ultimate album 2300 Jackson St in 1989.
A televised mini-series (four episodes) is devoted to the saga of Jackson, The Jacksons: Year American Dream (1992).
The group met temporarily at the time of a concert in 2001 for the 30 years birthday of career of Michael.
The rumor had persisted for several years already, but Jackson 5 indeed will be reformed for 2008. Jermaine Jackson itself declared there is little on an American television channel their return. It is thus today official, before the latter does not add: " We were to make that for the fans a last fois." One would speak even about the recording of a new album, with a world tour in premium. To the five would come to be added Janet Jackson. What to charm the fans of the whole world…
