Synopsis

Bennell miles, doctor of the small town of Santa Reflected, close to Los Angeles, realizes little by little that the inhabitants of this quiet small town transform themselves into beings stripped of any emotion. Little by little, he discovers that the extraterrestrial ones seize during the night the bodies its fellow-citizens.

• the scenario is drawn from an American science-fiction novel of Jack Finney published in 1955, entitled the Invasion of the profaners .
• the English title is Invasion off the body snatchers , i.e. " the invasion of the robbers of corps". The translation by profaners of burials - whereas there is no profanation of burial in the history - is probably the fact of a translator who dealt only with the management of the titles and the film had not seen.
• criticism saw in this film an allegory of the anguishes generated by the Cold war, with the idea that any neighbor of stage is perhaps a potential enemy deprived of states of heart and who serves in catimini the interests rather of his community than those of yours. It is this same political concern which will result in the lawsuits anticommunists orchestrated by the senator Mac Carthy at that time. The same cold war inspires in the same spirit another famous film, the Thing of another world .
