Synopsis

Charged with an important file of abuse of corporate asset, Jeanne judge Charming Killman (Isabelle Huppert) leads a delicate investigation touching to political circles and industrialists. From the start, it makes imprison the person in charge of a great group, president Humeau (François Berléand), whom it starts to question with eagerness. Weakened and weakened, this one yields little by little and ends up confessing its secrecies. In the political circles, concern goes up and against attack sets up itself to stop the too curious judge. But it is too late to act because, drunk of the capacity which she feels to hold, Killman judge is determined with going until the end of his investigation. Through the investigation the capacity is manufactured. Grayed by the expansion of the setting in examination of Humeau, Jeanne Charming Killman (to kill the man), examining magistrate, is not any more able to control an attracting territory, the setting with naked of a private life.

The scenario writer took as a starting point the Affaire Elf and the judge Eva Joly for his film. The latter criticized film like “a small theater of manners, which consolidates each one in the opposition to progress”, reducing the investigation to “a succession of stereotypes” and regretted that Claude Chabrol according to it violated the intimacy of his private life, adding during the promotion of film “of the sordid and erroneous details into personal life” ( Claude Chabrol narrowed the business Elf , Le Monde of March 17th, 2006).
