the Influence of darkness ( The Snake and the Rainbow ) is an American film of horror carried out by Wes Craven, left in 1988.
It is based on a documentary work of the Canadian ethnobotanist Wade Davis, The Serpent and The Rainbow (which gave its original title to film), a study of the practices Vaudou in Haiti, in particular the process of Zombi fication.
Synopsis
Denis Allan, a graduate anthropologist of Harvard, is of return to Boston after a long stay in
Amazonia, where it could study and try out the drugs used by the chamanes. A representative of a pharmaceutical company then proposes to him to go in
Haiti, in search of a hypothetical substance used by the wizards voodoos for zombifier their victims. Indeed, if the rumors on the zombis are founded and that such a drug exists, its applications in the field of the anesthesia would be more interesting.
Allan thus goes on the island, where he will be confronted with the dark power of the Voodoo, his influence on the Haitian company, and with use that make of them the henchmen of the dictator Jean-Claude Duvallier.
