The newspaper, originally published in format broadsheet (large size), spent in September 2003 to the Format tabloïd, term to which the drafting of the newspaper prefers that of compact , supposed qualitatively to differentiate The Independent from the popular newspapers usually published to the format tabloïd.

In April 2005, The Independent entrusted to a graphic agency located with Barcelona the responsibility to reorganize the model of the newspaper. It resulted from it a page layout and a general pace which, by certain points, are not without pointing out that of the French daily newspaper Libération .

The average assistantship of the newspaper is supposed to be constituted members of the middle-classes, rather directed in the center and the center left.
