The Hebraic catholic Community of Israel

The catholic community of Hebraic language of Israel is a small catholic community of Latin rite placed in the jurisdiction of the Latin Patriarcat of Jerusalem. It was directed a time by Jean-Baptiste Gourion, a Jew Oranian converted with Catholicism, deceased in June 2005. Since, it is directed by Pierbattista Pizzaballa, with the title of vicar, who is also with the head of the Custodie franciscaine of Holy Land.

It gathers:

  • of the catholics of Jewish origin, baptized in their country of origin or in Israel;
  • of the catholics resulting mixed families;
  • of the catholics of nonJewish origin living in Israel, in particular of the monks.

All, Israeli or not, regard Israel as their country and the Hebrew like their language.
