The Hand with feather

the Hand with feather (1941-1944) is a collective publication and a group which maintained the Surréalisme under the Occupation, in the absence of André Breton and of most of the lifeblood of the movement. The name is drawn from One season in hell of Arthur Rimbaud: “The hand with feather is worth the hand with plow. ” ( Bad blood ). Some of its members took share with the armed struggle, which brought them closer to the Communist party at the time of the constitution of maquis necessary to the Release of Paris.

This illustrated semi-clandestine collective publication appeared for the first time in May 1941. In the first number, the texts and illustrations are the surrealist ones: Adolphe Acker, Christine Boumeester, Achilles Chavée, Robert Rius, Manual J-V (Manuel Violated), Hans Schoenhoff, Gerard Schneider, Gerard Vulliamy of the young ex-Reverberators, néo-hobby-horse: Jean-François Chabrun, Jean-Claude Diamond-Shepherd, Gerard de Sède and Marc Shoe. Eights of its members died under the balls Nazis or in the camps: Tita off-set and died in Auschwitz, Hans Schoenhoff imprisoned for fact of resistance to the prison of Seek-Midday, deportee and deceased with Auschwitz, Jean-Pierre Mulotte cut down on the bridge of Austerlitz to Paris, Jean-Claude Diamond-Shepherd parachuted by the FFL and deceased in Normandy, Marc Shoe off-set STO in Germany and on the spot deceased.

Robert Rius secretary of André Breton and the surrealist group and son-in-law of Rene Iché, the director of the Books of poetry Jean Simonpoli and young a 17 year old poet resulting from the Layers of the 81 , Marco Ménégoz, are stopped on July 4th, 1944, whereas they were going to recover weapons for the release of Paris. Imprisoned and tortured with Fontainebleau, refusing to speak, they will be shot in the plain of Chanfroy on July 21st with 20 other Résistans.

In order to avoid being comparable with a periodical and being thus subjected to the German censure, the " revue" name with each delivery changed. Its true general headquarter was at Robert Rius and Laurence Iché, public garden Henri Delormel. Principal the " boxes with the lettres" were Marc Patin and No5el Arnaud (which ensured also the secretariat as of the autumn 1941), the majority of the leading articles were hand of Jean-François Chabrun.
