The Greek Alps

The the Greek Alps ( the Alps Graiæ ) are one of the 17 old Roman provinces of the Gaulle at the 4th century.

It was located between the named provinces the Alps maritimæ , Viennensis , Maxima Sequanorum and Italy, had for capititale Civ. Helvetiorum or Aventicum (Avenches), and for principal cities Darantasia or Civitas Centronum (Moûtiers in Tarentaise), Octodurus or Civitas Vallensium (Martinach).

This territory represents about the basin the Top the Rhone until the Lac Léman, the valley of the Suse, the Briançon be born and the valley from Prégalas.

They are thus named because according to the legend, only Hercules would have succeeds in making there pass an army.
