the French Nation (1955-1967) is a royalist weekly magazine French directed by the Journaliste and Philosophe Pierre Boutang.
After having collaborated in the weekly magazine Aspects of France (which takes the succession of the French Action starting from 1947), Pierre Boutang, having accompanied by the journalist Michel Vivier and a group of young writers, made scission in November 1954. The team reproaches the orthodoxe heirs to the Maurrassisme for fossilizing the Royalisme, to give up any attitude offensive and critical with respect to the past, not to work for the reconciliation between the two France, that of the Résistance and that, which while rejecting the Collaboration, remained faithful to the marshal Pétain.
They then decide to found a new royalist weekly magazine: the French Nation whose first number appears the October 12th 1955. The team of the newspaper proposes to renovate and renovate the royalism, to defend a modern Nationalisme, while being based on the facts of time present, by calling her wishes the constitution of a new public spirit and a “party of the policies”, by accommodating without ostracism the French of right and left which wishes to act according to the only national interest. Without disavowing its filiation with the ideas of Charles Maurras, the French Nation exerts a right of inventory on the thought of the old Master, rejects all clearly Antisémitisme, associates the contest and opens the dialog with other political traditions (Christian Personnalisme, Gaullisme, Socialisme…). She attaches a great importance to the social questions and pleads for an in-depth modernization of the economic organization of the country.
Violently opposed to the institutions and to the men of the IVe Republic and burning defendant of the French Algeria, the weekly magazine adopts the Général De Gaulle as from 1958 and supports the initiatives in direction of the new mode taken by the Count de Paris, claiming with the throne of France. The French Nation stops its publication in 1967.
In spite of its transitory existence, this royalist weekly magazine will have a real influence on the intellectual mediums attached to the modernization of France, the safeguarding of its values and its influence in the world. He will also exert a beneficial action on the French royalism, by renovating his bases and by rejecting all its drifts Vichyste S, anti-semites or Intégriste S. It will thus allow the aggiornamento to which will proceed a few years later the young team of journalists, writers and philosophers which will found, around Bertrand Renouvin, Gerard Leclerc and Yvan Aumont, the Nouvelle royalist Action.
