The Flins-on-Seine

Flins on the Seine is a common French located in the department of the Yvelines (District of Mantes-the-Pretty) and in the area Île-de-France. It is to 14 km in the east of Mantes-the-Pretty. It is known especially for the establishment of an important factory Automobile of the group Renault.
The name of Flins would derive from Latin figulus , potter.
The inhabitants are called Flinois.
Geography
The commune of Flins is bordering on Aubergenville in the west, the Mureaux and Bouafle in the east and on Bazemont in the south. In north, the Seine separates it from Juziers and the Mézy-on-Seine.Its territory extends mainly in the low valley from the the Seine, parcelled out by the great transportation routes (Autoroute of Normandy, Paris railway it Havre, D113 road - ex RN 13 - and D14 towards Mureaux). All the part located between the Railway and the Seine is occupied by the Renault factory, which has an unloading dock on the Seine, of important a particular Embranchement served by the the SNCF, and which is also served by a highway exchanger near. Between the railway and the Autoroute a factory of the Lyonnaise is water which exploits the water table located under the alluvial plain. Between the borough and the highway important a regional Shopping mall was established. The old borough is also in this low part, with the foot of the slopes to 40 m of altitude. It kept the character of a village by controlling its urbanization. The commune extends to the south until the Forêt from Alluets where its culminating point (176 m) is.
History
The first mentions of the existence of the village go back to the 11th century. It depended a time on the Abbaye of Saint-Germain-of-Meadows. Flins had an important vineyard until the crisis of will phylloxéra which ruined it definitively; a vine shoot of vine in the armorial bearings of the city points out it; thereafter it is the Maraîchage which prevailed in the alluvial plain.End of the 10th century: famine and epidemic of the “evil of burning” (due to the pin of rye)

October 2nd 1952: inauguration of the factory Renault of Flins. To note that the Renault factory, although named factory of Flins, extends to 80 % on the territory of the common neighbor of Aubergenville.

In May and June 1968, of violent demonstrations are held in front of the Renault factory and in the neighborhoods. June 10th, 1968, a young high-school pupil died of hydrocution in the Seine while seeking to flee the police force.
